Andreas Hannemann, second in Command of the I. german-dutch Corps of the Bundeswehr speaks about leading position the corps takes in 2023 at the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF). He states that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine the major change occurred in their mind, since the threat and tasks they prepared for just became real.
When it comes to units that will be placed under command of the corps in case of an attack, he explained, there are currently two different methods that probably will see some sort of change, leading to an new system. Currently forces will be assigned according to situation. Of course, there are certain core components that are named as Land Component Command. In case of activation the commandstaff will be moved from Münster (Ger) to the operation area to coordinate the troops.
Alongside the I. german-dutch Corps there currently are 9 other commandstaffs responsible for different NATO projects with changing commanding nations. In near future Hannemann states that there probably will be permanently assigned Command structures for different Projects, rather than tasks defined by NATO.
