At this year’s Berlin Security Conference (BSC), a panel will address the question of how NATO can return to territorial defence. The aim is to compare how concepts for territorial defence are shaped in the face of threats.
The participants will also evaluate plans and progress.
Another important topic that the panellists will address is the question of how best to respond to hybrid threats. This is particularly with respect to Article 5 of the Defence Alliance and the rapid nature of such attacks.
Among others, Colonel Peter Fausing, Commander of the Regional Defence Forces West of the Danish Home Guard, and Lieutenant General (ret.) Martin Schelleis, Federal Commissioner for Crisis Resilience, Security and Civil-Military Cooperation of the Order of Malta, will be represented. In addition, Dr Nils Förster, Partner, Strategy& Germany, Prof. Dr Sönke Neitzel, University of Potsdam, Brigadier General Jami Virta, Commander of the Finnish Brigade Pori, and Lisa Gorenflo, dog trainer at Schwarzwald Dogs, will enrich the debate.
The 23rd BSC, under the theme “NATO, EU, and their Allies: Deterring Threats to Freedom and Democracy”, will be held from November 19–20 in Berlin at the Vienna House Andel’s.
