The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM AC) Armament Center has awarded BAE Systems a three-year contract to continue research and development efforts to advance precision guided munitions (PGM).
The goal is to support the Army’s long-range precision fire modernization effort. Consequently, further development of the XM1155-SC guided munition is the subject of the contract. It is part of the HVP (Hypervelocity Projectile) family of munitions. XM1155-SC is intended in particular for engaging moving targets in contested areas without GPS support. BAE Systems was previously awarded a $16 million contract in 2021 to develop and demonstrate the effectiveness of PGMs. This collaboration will continue with the renewed contract award. During a field test in New Mexico in late March, XM1155-SC demonstrated marksmanship at ranges never before achieved by other precision-guided projectiles from the same type of gun.
“We’ve invested heavily in innovating and developing a highly maneuverable long-range capability that will support soldiers on the battlefield,” said Brent Butcher, vice president and general manager of Weapon Systems at BAE Systems. He said the system is particularly effective in engaging high-value targets. He is optimistic about the collaboration with DEVCOM AC.
