The Bundeswehr plans to use the “Tactical Air Control and Communication App” (TACC app) to train fighter control officers. Parts of the learning content will be available on mobile devices.
Until now, the teaching of content has been limited to stationary simulators. Training on these devices requires the presence of an instructor. By using the TAAC app, the Bundeswehr hopes to train prospective fighter control officers more flexibly and with fewer personnel. The software allows for individual customization of training sessions and insights into trainees’ progress and performance levels. The app’s content focus is on aviation language exercises.
TAAC is based on a market-available solution. The software used employs machine learning. Complex intercept scenarios in combination with voice radio can be simulated on tablets thanks to the technology.
Currently, the TACC app is being tested at Operational Command Area 2 in Erndtebrück. In the future, it could also be used in the Air Force’s operational command service, for training JTACs, for aircraft pilots and for general radio training.
