Contents of the latest German military aid package for Ukraine have just been announced at the NATO summit in Vilnius. The packet includes:
– 25 Leopard 1 A5 main battle tanks (from industry)
– 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles (from industry)
– Five Bergepanzer 2 Armoured Recovery Vehicles (from industry)
– Two Patriot launchers (from Bundeswehr)
– 20,000 rounds of artillery ammunition and 5,000 rounds of 155mm smoke ammunition
– Pioneer package (mine capability)
– A package of reconnaissance and anti-drone equipment as well as a LUNA drone system
– A tactical medical service package, including sub-components for a field hospital
“In total 31 positions will be implemented through transfers from Bundeswehr stocks and together with our industrial partners,” German Ministry of Defence reports, adding: “Moreover, in view of the constant need for airlift, Bundeswehr offers our allies in NATO up to two transport flights a week via the air force.”
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius emphasised: “I am very pleased that we were able to arrange another package here in Vilnius today to support Ukraine in its defensive struggle against the Russian attack. It serves Ukraine’s priorities: air defence, tanks, artillery. The Vilnius Summit package is worth just under 700 million euros. With this, we are making an important contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s endurance.”
