The German government has placed an order with Rheinmetall to supply 32 Leopard 1 systems to Ukraine. Delivery is scheduled for 2024.
Rheinmetall will supply 25 Leopard 1 A5 main battle tanks, five armored recovery vehicles (BPz 2) and two armored driving school vehicles to the Ukrainian armed forces. In addition to the vehicles, Rheinmetall will provide training, logistics, maintenance, spare parts and other support services. In order to be operational, however, work must first be carried out on the tanks. The Unterlüß and Kassel sites are responsible for this.
In addition to this major order, Rheinmetall is also involved in other projects to arm Ukraine. The company has been commissioned to supply 80 Marder infantry fighting vehicles. A significant number of these have already been delivered. In addition, 20 Marder vehicles are in stock, which could find their way to Ukraine if the order is placed. In addition, five Caracal airborne vehicles will be delivered to the Ukrainian armed forces at the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024. The Danish and Dutch governments have commissioned Rheinmetall to transport 14 Leopard 2A4s to Ukraine in 2024. In addition to the aforementioned projects, Rheinmetall is also providing support in the areas of ammunition, drones and medical equipment.
