Thales is equipping the Polish MIiecznik frigates with the Tactios combat management system, sonars, infrared sensors and radars. Delivery of the first ship is expected in 2029. Thales is cooperating with the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ) to implement the project.
The MIECZNIK-class multi-purpose frigates are designed, among other things, to secure sea lines of communication and critical infrastructure.
The Tactios combat management system is designed to contribute to this. The system provides functions to support sensor control, image compilation, situation assessment, action support and weapons control. Thales is fully responsible for the sonar of the new frigates. With the BlueHunter hull sonar and the Captas-2 towed sonar, Thales will enable the planned frigates to assess the underwater situation.
Thales will also supply the complementary SM400 Block 2 and NS50 radars. The SM400 radar is an S-band multifunction radar for simultaneous remote air and surface surveillance, helicopter control and weapons control. It can perform this function at ranges of up to 400 km. The NS50 radar, on the other hand, together with the TSA 6000 IFF1 interrogation system, is entirely dedicated to air and surface detection. The frigates will also be equipped with ARTEMIS, a 360-degree infrared search and track system for the Navy, and the STIR 1.2 EO Mk2 fire control radar.
“The contract provides a solid foundation for joint projects,” said Cezary Cierzan, director of PGZ’s Maritime Technologies Department. He added that thanks to the knowledge transfer with Thales, a number of sensors and effectors will be independently integrated into Tactio’s CMS.
