The German government commissions Rheinmetall to supply 40 Mader infantry fighting vehicles. The order, worth tens of millions of euros, was placed in August. Delivery is scheduled to begin before the end of the year.
The delivery brings the total number of Mader supplied by Rheinmetall to Ukraine to 80, with the Düsseldorf-based company having already shipped 20 platforms each to Ukraine in March and June. The infantry fighting vehicles provided are refurbished Mader 1A3s, which Rheinmetall formerly took over from Bundeswehr stocks. Rheinmetall has been involved in refurbishing the vehicles since spring 2022. Employees at Rheinmetall’s Kassel and Unterfüßen sites are currently involved in the overhaul. Up to ten infantry fighting vehicles leave the production facilities every month.
The Mader infantry fighting vehicle had been in service with the Bundeswehr since the 1970s. Since then, it has undergone several combat upgrades.
