The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has concluded a framework agreement for the procurement of up to 180,000 programmable time fuzes for 155 mm calibre cargo bullets.
The contractor is JUNGHANS Microtec GmbH. The budget committee of the German Bundestag had previously given its approval. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the contract. The first delivery is scheduled for this year. It will serve to qualify the new ammunition. It will be financed from the Bundeswehr’s special assets. With the ammunition already ordered, stocks will increase to 270,000 fuses. Procurement should be completed by 2026. The cargo shells are used in the 2000 self-propelled howitzer. Depending on the intended use, they serve as carriers for flare, smoke, infrared and other submunitions. Junghans is a world leader in the manufacture of fuzes and fuzing systems.
