The British Ministry of Defence has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply 500 HX 8×8 logistics vehicles of the Palletised Load System variant. The order is worth around 330 million euros.
Rheinmetall’s British subsidiary RMMV UK is responsible for executing the order. The company is committed to deliver the vehicles to the British Army within three months. For this reason, Rheinmetall has set up a site in Doncaster, UK. Around 320 vehicles are currently being modified at the site to meet the requirements of the British Army. A further 180 vehicles are scheduled to arrive by 31 March 2024. However, the production of the multi-purpose vehicles will remain the responsibility of the production facility in Vienna. At the Doncaster site, modifications are being made in line with the specifications of the British Army. Around 20,000 HX series lorries are in use worldwide. The British Army also already has an HX fleet. However, the new generation offers better protection for the vehicle crew and a higher load capacity. “I am delighted that, together with the industry, we have been able to complete this contract in just seven months, from concept and approvals through to contract award and initial delivery,” said Major General Darren Crook, Director of the Land Equipment Operating Centre at the Defence, Equipment & Support (DE&S) procurement agency.
