The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding at the Berlin Security Conference (BSC) 2023. Together, they want to develop solutions for the fifth and fourth generation of interoperability.
According to the companies, the current and future challenges of European and US troops in the land, air and water domain are the subject of the declaration. The agreement sets out a framework for this. The aim is to develop technology for more robust, trustworthy and secure multifunctional capabilities for connecting platforms in the air, in space, on land and at sea. In addition, the companies want to ensure air-to-air and air-to-ground connectivity. The jointly developed solutions are intended in particular to support Germany’s national security strategy, NATO objectives and the defense goals of the European Union.
“The collaboration with German industry underscores the importance of rapidly developing solutions that European militaries need today,” said Adil Karim, Vice President of Strategy and Mission Solutions at Northrop Grumman. The cooperation combines decades of experience, which is necessary to meet the challenges of the time.
According to Hansjörg Herrbold, Vice President Secure Communications at Rohde & Schwarz, “interoperability between existing and new platforms is a key success factor for the development of European security and defense capabilities”.
