The chiefs of the German forces discussed the organization of the brigade in Lithuania at the Berlin Security Conference 2023.
“The planning of the Armed Forces Base assumes that 1,800 soldiers will have to be deployed to Lithuania as additional army elements,” said Lieutenant General Martin Schelleis, chief of the Armed Forces Base, at the Berlin Security Conference. In the final configuration, however, only around 200 of these will be permanently stationed in Lithuania to ensure basic operations. The rapid growth capability could be ensured by pre-deploying large equipment. The medical service is planning to set up a site medical center at the location and pre-deploy equipment. In the CIR area, it would be possible to operate the site with a very small number of personnel. Whether this would be realized on a rotational basis or through permanent relocation would require further examination. The Netherlands is planning to participate in the brigade with a battalion on a rotational basis.
