The German Ministry of Defense has awarded Rheinmetall a contract on behalf of Ukraine to supply 35mm ammunition for the Gepard anti-aircraft gun tank. The Ukrainian Forces will receive a total of 300,000 rounds. The main goal of the ammunition is to support the Ukrainian armed forces. These forces are using the Gepard in the defensive war against the Russian invaders. The order is worth a low three-digit million euro amount. Rheinmetall will supply 150,000 rounds each of Armour Piercing Discarding Sabot (APDS-T) and High Eplosive Incendiary (HEI-T) ammunition. The ammunition can be used to effectively engage a wide range of targets.The first APDS-T cartridges are expected to arrive in Ukraine in the summer of 2023. Rheinmetall will switch the production from APDS-T to HEI-Th in the summer of 2024. Rheinmetall is currently setting up an additional medium-caliber production facility at the Unterluess site. The fascility is scheduled to start operations at the end of the first quarter of 2023. The additional production line is Rheinmetall’s response to increased demand on the global market.
